- Picks Road America
- There will be a lot of talk this weekend about being the inaugural race at Road America for the Cup Series, but that is not true. The NASCAR Grand National Series, now known as the Cup Series, raced one race at Road America in 1956.
- Buck Baker started on the pole and led the first five laps of the race. Tim Flock passed him on lap 6 and would lead twice for 17 laps, including the last 10, to win the event. Marvin Panch led 23 laps before breaking a rear end and retiring, and Speedy Thompson led 18 laps before blowing a motor.
- The race ended with just five drivers on the lead lap out of the 26-car field and winner Tim Flock would take home a whopping $2,950 for his victory.
